What is the purpose of the trip?

The trip was organized at the invitation of China’s President Hu Jintao.  As the majority of participants have not previously traveled to China, it is hoped that this trip will inspire some to include China in their future study or work plans.

Who went on the trip?

The trip was led by President Levin, Yale College Dean Salovey, and Vice President for New Haven & State Affairs and Campus Development Bruce Alexander.  The other participants were selected by the heads of their units (e.g. the Masters of the residential colleges selected two students from their respective Colleges, the Deans of the Professional Schools nominated two students and one faculty member from their respective schools). 

What was the itinerary?

The dates of the trip were May 15- 25.  The itinerary included visits to major universities, interaction with Chinese students and scholars, meetings with government leaders, tours of major cultural and historical sites in Beijing and Shanghai, and visits to historical sites in the ancient city of Xi’an.
