Two-Day PMT Workshop for Therapists - January 20th and 21st, 2010


Overview
This two-day training workshop covers the material of the one-day workshop in far greater depth, with additional presentations, troubleshooting sessions, and opportunities to practice techiques in role-plays. The training also covers a selection of skills and techniques not taught in the one-day session. The workshop is approved by APA and the NASW; upon completion, participants will earn 10 Continuing Education Credits.

Schedule
Each day will start at 10:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM. Participants should arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the first day in order to check in and pick up training materials.

Specific Topics Covered

  • How to set up positive reinforcement programs to strengthen pro-social behaviors
  • How to teach parents to use effective punishment techniques to decrease aggression
  • How to improve parent-child interactions
  • How to help parents who struggle to get their child to perform everyday tasks (e.g., getting dressed, completing homework, taking a bath)
  • How to develop effective school programs to reduce disruptive behavior at school
  • How to motivate parents to use techniques consistently
  • How to handle treatment barriers (e.g., differences in parenting styles, client resistance, etc.)
  • Additional skills as determined by the workshop coordinators

  • Formal presentations using Powerpoint slides
  • Videos
  • Extensive role-playing
  • Troubleshooting and discussion

Preparation
In order to make the training as helpful as possible, it is recommended that all attendees read Alan Kazdin's Parent Management Training before the workshop.

Registration
All participants must complete the registration form and mail it to the clinic, postmarked no later than January 13.

NOTE: Both the fee and the registration form must be received for a participant's place to be held.

Fee
The workshop fee is $550. Participants registering before December 30 qualify for a reduced early-bird fee of $500. Checks should be made payable to the Yale Parenting Center and Child Conduct Clinic, and mailed to the same at 314 Prospect St., New Haven, CT 06520.
