The Yale College Chess Club meets Saturdays in the SY Fellows Lounge (turn left from where you swipe in) during dinner time, 5 to 7. We usually stay later and play for a while. Other clubs in the New Haven area can be found from the CT State Chess Association, but we are the only downtown area club to our knowledge. The Yale Chess Club holds casual play over lunch every Friday, from 11am to 3pm. Join us for blitz and clam chowder. More serious training sessions are held on Thursday nights in the seating area at Gourmet Heaven (G Heav), typically at 8 o'clock. Speak with a Club officer for more information. Here is the current executive board: We're working on developing a Yale chess server, and are planning some sort of Yale-wide tournament some time next Spring. In the meantime, however, if you really can't wait until Saturday, you can usually get a game in at the Starbuck's on Chapel and High. There are several tournaments in the New Haven area that the club recommends. Besides the annual Foxwoods tournament (see Continental Chess for more info) we highly recommend the Greater New Haven Open tournaments run by Jim Celone, BR '83. If we're missing something, let us know. |
