This map depicts global vegetation for the month of May, 1996. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is used to measure vegetation intensity using a ratio of infra-red and visible red bands of data. Two NDVI datasets were used to create this image. Each was a 10-day composite, 8 km, AVHRR image, one early and one late May 1996. The two datasets were composited to construct the above image.
