CCWS Mission
To promote interdisciplinary science and policy
studies of watersheds and adjacent coastal waters, and to incorporate these
studies into academic life at Yale by providing opportunities for student
and faculty projects related to the study of coastal and watershed systems.
To develop linkages between communities located
in coastal watersheds, other institutions (government agencies, NGO’s,research
institutions) and the Yale scientific community in order to foster collaboration
on watershed research, education, habitat preservation, and ecological
restoration.
The interdisciplinary nature of our work provides opportunities for student
projects across all current advanced study
areas. The Center has adopted
a context - the coastal watershed - within
which interdisciplinary initiatives can flourish. Working locally
in the greater New Haven area offers convenient study sites and continuity
of data collection and allows us to build a vast network of local and
regional contacts among governmental agencies,
educational institutions, environmental
organizations, and local citizens groups.
