A Non-market Valuation of Maine's Water Resources

Michel Elizabeth Woodard

The goal of this study is to quantify the non-consumptive value of Maine's open water resources to its hotel and lodging industry. This is done using a hedonic analysis of room rates. Two types of variables are estimated in this manner: water views and proximity to water. In addition, a paired comparison analysis is performed in an attempt to more precisely quantify the value of a view of water from a hotel window.
