Surface Water Bacterial Fluctuation in the Upper Hoosic River Watershed

Elena Traister

Elena Traister implemented a robust water quality sampling program with two objectives: first, to understand whether bacterial (E. coli) pollution was a problem within the upper Hoosic River Watershed and second, to determine the most representative sampling program to characterize water quality. She found that decreasing forest cover was relational to decreasing water quality. She also found that water quality monitoring, in addition to consideration of weather variables, should be consistent with time of day and time of year to accurately characterize changing water quality.
