Judy Preston wanted coastal residents in the Old Saybrook, Connecticut area to learn more about the estuarine ecosystem. For her internship project, she wrote, designed and produced three informational brochures on:
- The American Oyster,
- Invisible Engines of the Salt Marsh (The Essential Bacteria), and
- Salt Marsh Pannes, Pools, and Ponds.
Effort was made to present information on estuarine topics in easily understood language, and in an attractive, but easily reproduced format. One thousand copies of each brochure were printed and distributed to community organizations in the Connecticut River estuary region.
