Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome to the Chinese Adopted Siblings Program for Youth (CASPY) at Yale University!

The Chinese Adopted Siblings Program for Youth (CASPY) is a cultural event jointly run by Yale's Chinese American Students' Association (CASA) and Taiwanese American Society (TAS). Very generally, a bunch of us undergrads play with a bunch of little kids, eat a lot of good food, and go home thoroughly exhausted. More specifically, though?

Once every semester, CASPY brings in adopted Chinese children from nearly one hundred families in the New Haven area, and pairs them with an undergraduate big sibling. Throughout the day, children learn about their culture through interactive workshops such as arts and crafts, Chinese word search, and face painting. Additionally, CASPY teens are shown around Yale and given the chance to speak to college kids, while CASPY parents are encouraged to participate in panels, discussions, and demonstrations (such as our delicious dumpling-making tutorial). At the end of the day, an enormous talent show ensues, headlined by CASPY children and Yale student groups alike.

Speaking on behalf of everyone here at CASPY, we can't tell you how satisfying it is to see children and parents alike learning about the Asian culture; nor can we express how much fun we have, watching the big sibs getting their faces (and necks and shirts and arms) painted and seeing all the CASPY kids showing off at the Talent Show. What we can tell you, though, is that CASPY is worth every minute we put into it because of all of the families that come to Yale to support us.

And with that said, we would absolutely love to see you at Spring CASPY, April 14th. Welcome to a new year of CASPY!

Sincerely,

Shirley Guo (BK'15) and Brian Chang (JE'13)
