Getting Started
The Health Professions Advisory Team is located at 55 Whitney Avenue, 3rd floor in Undergraduate Career Services. The team includes Ed Miller (Director), Kristin McJunkins (Associate Director), Carrie Tremble (Career Counselor), and Lisa Blees (Senior Administrative Assistant). The staff is available to meet with students and alumni of Yale College who have an interest in attending medical school or entering other health professions (public health, veterinary school, dental school, etc.).
Services
- Counseling Appointments are 45-minutes in length. It is best to plan an agenda to discuss with the premed advisor, but students are welcome to make appointments for questions, concerns, or to obtain general premed information.
- Open Office Hours are scheduled each day of the week. During these designated times, students can drop into the office without an appointment for quick question and answer sessions. Open office hours are on a first come, first serve basis, and the visit is limited to fifteen minutes. The sign up sheet is available one half hour before the session begins.
- Mock Interviews are conducted by the members of the HPAP staff. This practice session can help you prepare and strategize for your upcoming medical/health profession school interviews. Mock Interview appointments can be made through the receptionist, either by phone (432.0818) or in person, at least 48 hours in advance. Appointments cannot be scheduled via email. If you must cancel an appointment, please call the office 24 hours in advance.

Meetings and Events
The Health Professions Advisory Program hosts a variety of relevant programs, panels, and workshops, throughout the year. You can check the UCS web calendar for upcoming event dates and times.
Curricular Meetings are held from 3:30-4:45 during the Shopping Period each semester. Students should check the UCS web calendar for specific dates. Students may drop into these sessions to ask questions related to coursework or general pre-med/health preparation and do not need to stay for the entire session.
Pre-Med Registration Meetings occur in early November for students who will be applying to medical/health profession school that summer. Application instructions and a timetable are provided at this meeting, as well as information on the Health Professions Evaluation and Interview, and the Health Professions File. Dates and times for these mandatory meetings are posted on the UCS web calendar.
New England Health Professions Career Fair at Yale is held each year early in the fall semester. This fair brings admissions representatives from a select group of professional schools and programs to campus to meet with current and former Yale students as well as students and alumni from nearly 20 other undergraduate institutions in New England.
Publications
You can obtain a copy of the Red Book and Preparing to Become a Health Care Professional in the premed office or download a copy from the UCS website.
Red Book: Applying to Medical School
A 28-page document that details everything students applying to medical school should be thinking about and doing. Students will receive a copy of the Redbook at the November Registration Meetings.
Preparing to Become a Health Care Professional
A pamphlet which provides general information and a timeline to help keep students on track.
General Information about M.D./Ph.D and MSTP Programs
M.D./Ph.D. programs are specifically designed for men and women who want to become research physicians, also known as physician-investigators or physician-scientists. Graduates of M.D./Ph.D. programs often go on to become faculty members at medical schools, universities, and research institutes such as the NIH. M.D./Ph.D. programs prepare students for careers in which they will spend most of their time doing research, not just taking care of patients.
