Arts> Resources for All Artists
Overview
Do Your Homework
Assess yourself. Is your skill level and personality such that you
can practice your art professionally or as an amateur? Are your
skills, values, and interests suited to working in an arts field in a
role other than as a practitioner of your art?
All artists should familiarize themselves with the "business" of
their work. Familiarize yourself with issues such as how to market
yourself and your art, whether or not to incorporate and how to
attend to financial matters such as taxes, how to network and meet
potential clients and collaborators, whether to earn a living solely
through your art or by working at a second job, and how to continue
learning and improving your art.
Use UCS
Attend programs of interest throughout the year at UCS (check our
calendar). Schedule a career-counseling appointment by calling
432.0800 during business hours.
Stay Informed
If you are interested in receiving email messages about jobs,
internships, programs, and events in the career fields of your
choice, sign up for one or more of our email distribution lists. See Get Connected for instructions on how to sign up for UCS email distribution lists. You can register
for the "Arts and Communications" distribution list as well as others.
Support the Arts
Get involved! Become a member (especially while you're still a student and the rates are lower) of the organizations you admire. In addition to or instead of financially contributing, call the organizations and offer your services as a volunteer. "Being there" is one of the best ways to hear of opportunities and to cultivate and demonstrate your skills and talents.
