Arts> Literary Arts
Overview
The Literary Arts, of course, relate to the written word. They
encompass writing, editing, critiquing, teaching, reviewing,
developing, and selecting in a variety of settings, both individual
and group, such as school and college classrooms, writers'
workshops/centers, publishing houses of books and periodicals, and
libraries. The "book arts" involve a book's physical/artistic
presentation-the paper, binding, printing, as well as the design.
Possible Occupational Titles
Writer, editor, reviewer, teacher,
librarian, archivist, researcher, publisher, interpreter, translator.
Getting Started
Talent and interest are necessary for a successful literary career.
It is important to be well-read and to seek opportunities to write,
edit, and discuss literary works. Volunteer for a literary journal,
meet authors at public readings, read in many genres, and write,
write, write!
For opportunities in publishing, see Communications: Publishing
(Books & Music).
