Sophomore Year

Intern this summer
Students should try something totally different this summer, or cement a choice already made. If your child didn't do an internship last year, now's the time! Check out the Find Internships section for more information on how to go about finding an internship this summer.

Attend UCS Career Fairs & Programs
UCS hosts several career fairs throughout the year. These cover corporate and non-profit careers, studying and working abroad, law school, and health professions educational opportunities (including medical school). They are designed for all students to learn about opportunities, internships, organizations or potential graduate or professional schools. UCS programs provide an opportunity for students to continue to explore career options and learn valuable skills necessary for a variety of post-graduation options.

Register for the On-Campus Interview Program
Many companies and organizations visit campus each year seeking juniors to fill summer internship positions. Learn more about how students can participate in this program. Refer to the On-Campus Interview Program section for more information and registration requirements.

Get Involved with student organizations
Leadership roles and participation with student organizations often provide good career-related experience - whether in journalism, entrepreneurship, artistic production or political activism. Skills developed might include project or personnel management, marketing or advertising, writing for publication or money management, or a host of other possibilities. Students should identify an organization (or several) and work with UCS to identify skills that can be developed or how to translate ones that have developed into marketable assets.

Volunteer your time
Nearly one-third of Yalies enter the non-profit sector of the economy at graduation- in teaching, health careers, social services, government, environmental careers, museums, and many areas of the arts. Most develop relevant skills while at Yale, often through volunteering in the community or through Dwight Hall. Sophomore year can be an ideal time to get involved in these activities.

Meet with a UCS Counselor
We can assist students in updating resumes and cover letters - translating and marketing what they have done during their first year - as well as help students identify internships, mentors, and other vehicles for exploration.
