Junior Year
Meet with a counselor early in the fall
Coming in early will allow UCS to work with students to map out a strategy for the year, reflect on their previous experiences during the first two years and get a jump-start on the internship search process. Students should also update their resume and continue to develop your cover letters writing skills.
Attend UCS Career Fairs
UCS hosts several career fairs throughout the year. These cover corporate and non-profit careers, studying and working abroad, law school, and health professions educational opportunities (including medical school). They are designed for all students to learn about opportunities, internships, organizations or potential graduate or professional schools. The non-profit and corporate careers fairs are great venues to learn more about potential internship opportunities so students should be prepared with a resume.
Secure a Summer Internship
Internships are an effective way to continue the career exploration process, build personal networks, secure job leads or prepare for the upcoming job search. Their internship this summer may also lead to a full-time job offer before returning to campus for senior year. This is a pivotal summer for students - a time to gain substantive experience before embarking on the job search as a senior. Make sure to review the Find Internships section for search strategies and additional resources.
Register for the On-Campus Interview Program
Many companies and organizations visit campus each year seeking juniors to fill summer internship positions. Learn more about how students can participate in this program. Refer to the On-Campus Interview Program section for more information and registration requirements.
Participate in a UCS Real World Tour
UCS coordinates visits to employers for groups of up to 50 students. The employers vary each year, depending on student interest, but past locations have included a publishing house, an advertising agency, and investment banks. Details of this year's tours will be sent to students that have signed up on UCS distribution lists.
Planning on going to Medical School?
If students wish to matriculate to medical school immediately following your graduation from Yale, students need to complete their applications in the summer following junior year. We advise scheduling an appointment with a premedical advisor during the fall term to discuss this process. Students may also wish to read through the Applying to Medical School Guide to learn what is expected of them.
Thinking about Law School?
If students plan on attending Law School immediately upon graduation from Yale, consider taking the LSAT in June of this year rather than in October or December of Senior Year. Schedule an appointment with one of UCS' Pre-Law Advisors early this year.
