We strongly urge you to use public transportation! Traffic in
New York City is always near gridlock and parking is extremely
difficult. Wear your sneakers or boots for easier travel. It is
wise to carry your dress shoes (and for women, an extra pair of
nylons) in a knapsack. Even though you may be planning to use another
mode of transportation, still carry enough cash for a cab fare!
Your destination is:
The American Management Association (AMA)
1601 Broadway (8th Floor)
New York, NY
Directions From:
Location: On the prestigious East Side of midtown Manhattan,
in the heart of shopping, theaters, museums and New York's
finest nightlife.
Transportation: Taxi, limousine and bus service available
from Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark international airports.
Rail Transportation to NYC
Amtrak Trains arrive at Pennsylvania Station, 34th
Street and 8th Avenue. Take a taxi to the AMA building (1601
Broadway; 8th Floor). Taxis are most easily found at the Madison
Square Garden exit on 8th Avenue, which is about a one-block
walk underground from where the trains come in. Any policeman
will give you directions. The cost for the Taxi will be approx.
$3.50 to $5.00.
Subways in NYC: The B,D, and E trains stop at Seventh
Avenue and at 53rd Street (between 52nd and 53rd). The N and R
trains stop at 57th and Seventh Avenue as well as 49th and Seventh
Avenue. The tokens used on the subway are accepted on buses as
well and are easier than coins. Bus fares are payable only in
coins (no bills under any circumstances), so the best thing to do
is to go to any one of the many underground subways stops and
purchase 5 to 6 tokens. Do this first; it is much easier than
fumbling around for change.
Air Transportation to NYC
Since many of you will travel a great distance,
air transportation will be your only option. Unfortunately,
air fare will vary considerably. Here are a few
things you should consider.
Schedule your flight
at least two weeks in advance.
Scheduling flights well
in advance will always
net a lower fare. You
should be able to schedule
your
fight as much as a month
in advance.
TAXI Transportation
to NYC
Taxis can be expensive.
The ride in from LaGuardia
Airport can take 30 to
45 minutes (depending on
traffic and how crazy a
driver you get) and will
cost approximately $25.
Even short rides of three
or four blocks can cost
$3.00 to $5.00 dollars.
Whenever possible, try
to arrange it so you can
share the taxi fare with
a fellow student.
