How Campus Mail Works

The primary responsibility of Yale Mail Service is to pick up and distribute campus mail between various locations throughout the University; to receive and distribute incoming U.S. mail and to deliver prepared outgoing U.S. mail to the United States Postal terminal.

Campus Mail is one of the few University departments providing a vital service to all faculty and staff, every working day.

Campus Mail operates from two main mailrooms and two satellite one-person mailrooms adjacent to our Receiving stations.  The main mailroom servicing the central campus is located at 100 John Murphy Drive, approximately one mile off campus.  The second main mailroom, the Medical Mailroom, services the School of Medicine and is located in the basement of the Sterling Hall of Medicine.

Central Mailroom Open 8 AM - 4 PM Monday - Friday
Medical Mailroom Open 7 AM - 1 PM Monday - Friday

One satellite mailroom services the Science Hill area and is located in the Bass building, the other is located within and services customers in the Boyer Center for Molecular Medicine.

Science Mailroom Open 8-11 AM Monday - Friday
BCMM Mailroom Open 8-11 AM Monday - Friday

The "Central" mailroom picks up all incoming U.S. mail from the Brewery Street Post Office and delivers it to the four mailrooms.  All central mail is sorted and separated into four delivery routes each consisting of 25-30 delivery locations.  As mail is delivered each morning, mail carriers pick up all outbound U.s. mail and inter-office correspondence.  Outgoing U.S. mail is brought to the Post Office in the late afternoon and the inter-office mail is brought back to the central mailroom to be sorted for delivery the following day.The "Medical" mailroom's main responsibility is to sort all incoming U.S. and inter-office mail.  Each of the 110 departments is responsible for picking up their mail each day.  The Medical Mailroom sorts mail received each day.   That mail is available for pick up from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm daily.Since U.S. Mail is sorted by post office box number, and campus mail by department and building address, it is extremely important that you know and use your proper address.
