Bioethics, undoubtedly a flourishing and an increasingly important interdisciplinary field, consists of debates within science, philosophy, law, religion, medicine, the environment, history, and social policy. The Yale Bioethics Society is an organization comprised of undergraduate students who are interested in, and dedicated to, promoting awareness and meaningful, in-depth discussion surrounding many pressing bioethical controversies.
In 2006, the Yale Undergraduate Bioethics Society and the Yale Journal for Medicine and Law co-sponsored a panel discussion: "The Avian Flu Threat: Are We Prepared?" This panel took place on featured Linda Degutis, Professor of Surgery and Emergency Medicine and Director of the Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness at the Yale School of Medicine, and Chalmers Clark, Postdoctoral Fellow and Lecturer in Philosophy of Boston University.
