Alejandro
Bustillos, Jr. Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska Year: 2011 College: Trumbull Major: Music/Architecture What do you miss
about your hometown that you canÕt find in New Haven? In general I just miss
driving up and down Dodge and strolling around the Old
Market. What
interests you about folkloric dancing and why did you join this group? I started dancing in middle
school mainly because my best friend had done it and really liked it. I went
a few of the rehearsals and realized that it was a ton of fun. Ballet Folkl—rico
is a great to stay in shape, and most importantly preserve our Mexican
Culture. Each dance has a specific story that the dancers, choreography,
costumes, and music all try to tell. |

What is your
favorite folklorico dance and why? I know a version of 'La
Bamba' from the state of Vera Cruz that I really like performing. We
choreographed it for three girls and a guy. The solos are very fun. This
dance is very well known and has many interpretations, another reason why it
is such a great dance. Biography Alejandro began his Ballet
Folklorico eduction under the instruction of Magdelena Garcia at El Museo
Latino in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of thirteen. For the three the years
that followed he performed with the museum's resident dance troupe Chiomari,
presenting at the Nebraska State Fair and at the Joslyn Art Museum. Then at
seventeen years he joined Xalapa: Ballet Folklorico, a professional dance
troupe through The South Omaha Arts Institute, under the direction of Tashia
Cruz and managment of Marcos Mora." |
