July | New Facilitators for Best Practices Initiative Hired

Michele Potter, former training coordinator at Yale Medical Group, joined Best Practices as a facilitator in July. Michele has worked as both a C&T and M&P in her many years of service with the University. As a union steward in her early career she gained the trust and loyalty of the staff by simply “treating others as she wished to be treated”. Michele’s immeasurable patience, exceptional customer service skills and instinctive people skills will be a benefit to the Best Practices Initiatives.

Lorraine Skibitcky, former senior administrative assistant at Yale School of Art and a member of Local 34 Executive Board, joined Best Practices as a facilitator in July 2008. An employee for over 20 years, Lorraine brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the department and will be a valuable assest as she helps the department implement union-managment joint initiatives. Her ability to quickly resolve issues and act as a change agent helps to create meaningful outcomes. Lorraine is known for active listening skills, mentoring others and advocating for making postive change in the workplace.

Feb | Best Practices Advisor, Local 35, to support Dining Services

Mike Schoen, first cook in Berkeley Residence Hall, recently joined Best Practices to help grow Best Practice efforts in Dining Services. Mike will work with managers to address a specific set of labor relations issues and assist in resolving difficult grievance cases. For the past three years, Mike has been an active leader in Best Practices in Dining Services and has sat on the campus-wide Initiative Steering Committee.

Feb | New Best Practice Facilitators Hired

Brian Wingate, former lead custodian, Local 35 joined Best Practices as a facilitator in January. Brian has been a member of the Local 35 Executive Board and a departmental steward since 2005, was formerly involved in the Best Practice Training and Education Committee, and has long been a leader in problem-solving, improving morale, and resolving conflicts in custodial services.

Deb Arcangelo-Vitale joined Best Practices as a facilitator in February. Deb has worked for more than 25 years in the healthcare industry in management and consulting roles, including facilitating work redesign, delivering training and implementing quality improvement efforts. Deb’s skills, adaptable style, tolerance for ambiguity and strong project management skills are an asset to Best Practices.

Aug 2007 | Jane Savage is Yale's New Director of Best Practices

The University and Locals 34 and 35 are pleased to announce that Jane Savage has assumed the role of Director, Best Practices, the labor-management partnership between Yale University and Locals 34 & 35, Federation of University Employees, Unite Here.
