A Brief Introduction to BBCC

Originally co-founders and co-chairs Amara Neng, Sana Sim and Sodany Sor (all Class of '06) met up informally as friends to chat over meals.  In addition to just getting to know one another as people in general, the three also discussed their common Cambodian- American heritage specifically. They recognized that Cambodians, both here and abroad, face unique and pressing problems in the aftermath of a horrendous war and after decades of political turmoil.  And so over time, discussions of a need to help Cambodians transformed into plans for definite action.

The result? Builders of a Brighter Cambodian Community (BBCC), a student organization committed to spreading cultural awareness and to raising funds for charities targeted at alleviating some of Cambodia's or Cambodian-Americans' many problems.

Who should join BBCC?

First, let's get this straight -- you do not have to be Cambodian to join BBCC!!  We want people of all backgrounds.  The only "requirement," so to speak, is to possess a good heart.  You just need to care about learning more about the world and its very diverse residents.  You should believe in the power of education and the power of yourself in helping others.

Why should you join BBCC?

Besides being an extremely chill organization, there are a plenty other reasons to join BBCC.  Basically you can join BBCC mainly to acquire business skills when we have our fundraising events; you can join to gain organizational skills when we ask you to plan events; you can join to met hot guys and girls when we have our social activities; you can join to become more enlightened and thus lead more enlightened lives; you can join for "For Those Who Can't" so that you can hone your writing skills and have a support system; and you can even just join for the good food if you want! There's no minimum or maximum time commitment.  There are some leadership positions open, but at the same time, we also will cherish those of you who might not be as involved and only come out to support us when we have our events.

Essentially, BBCC - much like the world and its problems - will be what you make it.
