For
Those Who Can't...
For
Those Who Can't
(FTWC) was an idea spurred off from the co-chairs' love and
respect for the power of the written word. Since one of
BBCC's main goals is to spread cultural awareness, the
co-chairs thought it would be appropriate and fun if there
were a sub-group, so to speak, consisting of members who would
meet every month to write and later share pieces relating to
universal issues that face us all as human beings. After
sharing their original works of poetry, prose, fiction or
non-fiction, members would then engage in an informal
discussion about their cultures or backgrounds and tie the
literature back to reality. Pieces will be published
online and can also be refined to be submitted to a
lit magazine (e.g. Revelasians). Through the
power of their pens, FTWC
members will hone their writing skills and widen their view of
the world.
The
point of For Those Who Can't is to express feelings,
thoughts, and opinions
for, well, for those who can't.
sample prompts used in the past
Prompt
#1: write
a piece that somehow exposes a part of your cultural or
personal history or background that you think most people
don’t typically hear about (e.g. “My Big Fat Greek
Wedding” – very Greek father uses Windex to cure things
and can trace words back to its Greek origin).
Prompt
#2: write
a piece where the only action is you running or escaping from
whatever object, whether it be real or imagined.
Prompt
#3: think
of something -- an object or an action -- that is ugly or
repulsive. Describe this thing in such a way that the reader
will either begin to see it as beautiful or will believe that
the narrator truly believes it is beautiful.

how you feel when your mother smiles at you.
