Mission
Statement
Builders
of a Brighter Cambodian Community (BBCC) is a non-profit
organization founded and run by Yale University students. Open
to individuals of all ethnicities and demographic backgrounds,
it is a group that seeks to promote and spread knowledge about
Cambodian culture while emphasizing a strong devotion to
community service, both locally and abroad. BBCC aspires to
institute several activities to serve the Cambodian community.
They include, but are not limited to, establishing a variety
of fundraisers that aim to raise money and supplies for those
living in impoverished Cambodia and hosting or participating
in events that help spread awareness and promote understanding
about Cambodia and its culture. The majority of the
funds raised (minus any expenditures) will be donated directly
to charity or non-profit organizations deemed legitimate and
suited to BBCC’s purposes...In sum, BBCC is an organization
with a multitude of aspirations but with one main goal in
mind: to help alleviate and tackle several of the
crucial problems that now face Cambodians and
Cambodian-Americans. It will mainly be through donations
to Cambodian relief organizations abroad and through spreading
cultural awareness within the Yale community that we hope to
accomplish this goal.

While a little hard to believe, but a new academic year has
begun! BBCC plans to continue its Make a Book, Teach a
Kid project, as well pursue some new activities. For
one, we plan to form partnerships with schools in Cambodia and
begin pen pal correspondences with students aspiring to
improve their English writing skills. Additionally, we
hope to bring in more speakers, increase our fundraising
efforts, and host a weekend-long conference with students from
Bridgeport, Connecticut. Check back for details about
our first meeting. |
