Writing Prizes

The Department of English maintains a Web site with a thorough list of writing prizes for Yale students.

Other writing contests Yale undergraduates may wish to enter:

The Atlantic Monthly Student Writing Contest.

The Rolling Stone College Journalism Competition.

The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics is awarded annually for student writing.

A prize sponsored by The Nation, a weekly journal of news and liberal opinion.

The Roy W. Howard National Reporting Competition, which offers an international educational trip as its prize, is sponsored by the Scripps Howard Foundation.

The Overseas Press Club Foundation Scholarship is awarded for the best essays written for its competition; it is meant to support students who wish to become foreign correspondents.

Yale’s own MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies offers a cash prize for a work of international reporting.

The Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence Awards for student journalists.

Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc., is a non-profit foundation that offers a prize for student journalism.

Students are eligible for a prize offered by the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists’ Association
