Babysitting Guidelines for Parents and Guardians

The following are guidelines that can be reviewed by both the sitter and the family.

Access to job listings is limited to eligible members of the Yale University community faculty, staff and currently enrolled students.

Sitters' Responsibilities:
  • If the sitter becomes ill, or if an emergency arises, she/he must contact the Client immediately. Under no circumstances is a babysitter to pass on a job to another sitter without the consent of the Client.
  • Sitters may not bring children into Yale dorms under any circumstances.
  • Sitters may not bring guests with them to babysitting jobs.
Clients' Rights and Responsibilities:
  • We strongly urge the Client to interview sitters and check references.
  • It is the Client's responsibility to contact the Service in order to post jobs.
  • Any regular basis jobs that are posted by the Client will be removed after thirty days following the end-date provided in the job posting.
  • Payment should be discussed one-on-one with the sitter directly.
  • It is the responsibility of the Client to provide the sitter with food or money for food if she/he is working during a mealtime.
  • It is the responsibility of the Client to inform the sitter as to whether or not they have pets, as some sitters may be allergic to or uncomfortable with certain pets.
  • Clients are required to provide or pay for a sitter’s transportation to and from campus. Sitters are entitled to safe transportation to and from the job.
  • Clients are committed to the rates of pay posted with their jobs.
