     Dougald J.W. O’Reilly (Ph.D. Otago 2000) is a visiting lecturer at Yale. After receiving his MA and Ph.D. degrees in archaeology from the University of Otago, New Zealand, O’Reilly worked for UNESCO in Cambodia. He went on to found the Non-governmental organization Heritage Watch in 2003 dedicated to the preservation of Southeast Asia’s cultural heritage.

     O’Reilly joined the faculty of Sydney University in 2006. Specializing in the Southeast Asia, O’Reilly has carried out research in the region for over a decade. He has directed excavations in both Thailand and Cambodia. His research is mostly focused on the Prehistoric period, especially the Iron Age. He is a Deputy Director of the University of Sydney’s Greater Angkor Project. O’Reilly has written numerous academic articles and published a book on early civilizations in the region.
