National Science Foundation (NSF) Dissertation
Improvement Grants
Grants of up to $12,000 each to support Anthropological
field work virtually anywhere in the world; there
is no citizenship requirement (because the awards
are technically made to the University). There are
NSF programs in Cultural
Anthropology, Lingustics,
Law
and Social Sciences (Global Perspectives on Sociological
Studies); Science,
Technology & Society; Archaeology
and Physical
Anthropology. For applications that fit, there
may be better odds with Law and Social Sciences and
with Science, Technology and Society than with Cultural

Smithsonian Research Fellowships

$15,000 per year; prorated for periods of less than
12 months.
