The Story of Henry Roe Cloud, Yale College’s First Native American Graduate, Highlighted by The Yale Herald

The Yale Herald had an article this past spring highlighting the first Native American graduate of Yale College, Henry Roe Cloud. Born in 1884 on the Winnebago reservation in Nebraska, Roe Cloud graduated from Yale College in 1910.

To celebrate the legacy of Henry Roe Cloud, the Native American community and alumni network have established a gathering in his name to celebrate over 100 years of Native students present on the Yale College Campus. This gathering, which takes place every several years, features a weekend of events for current and former students and faculty. The last event, which was held in the Fall of 2005, was covered in a prior issue of The Blue Print, the newsletter of the Association of Yale Alumni. The next HRC event will be taking place this coming fall. Please check in on the ANAAY website for further updates on this event.
