Arlene Barochin is passionate about God, her family, and education. She firmly believes that she has a duty to give back to the black community and she has a strong academic interest in sociology, political science, and race relations. She spent her freshman year at Duke, where she was Freshman Community Service liaison, Co-Academic Director for the Center for Race Relations, and honored as Reginaldo Howard Scholar for service, leadership, and academic excellence. At Yale, her biggest involvement is serving on the Student Executive Committee Dwight Hall; the largest student-run non-profit in the United States. She loves traveling, going to the beach, and learning about her Haitian background.

Brittany Bethea is a senior at the University of New Haven, majoring in Music Industry. She is the Parliamentarian of the Zealous Xi Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and feels blessed to be spending her last year as an Undergraduate with such a distinguished and fine chapter. Originally from Jersey City, New Jersey, Brittany has a passion for the Performing Arts in all aspects. She is a classical vocalist and enjoys the smooth sounds of John Coltrane and Billie Holiday. Brittany also enjoys traveling and after being in Kenya for a study abroad program, she hopes to continue to travel the rest of the world. After graduation, Brittany plans on attending law school to study Entertainment and Media Law. She has high dreams of moving to California and starting her own law firm to accommodate the needs of undiscovered artists.

Naomi Bland is a junior at Yale University, double majoring in the History of Science, History of Medicine and African American History. She is the hostess and MIP Co-Chair for the Zealous Xi  Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.  Originally from Little Rock, AR she has a passion for acting, playing squash, reading and traveling. She plans to pursue medicine, acting and teaching. She is a Yale Club Scholar and was the recipient of the Yale AACColades Artistic Award. On campus, she serves on the board of the Yale Black Women's Coalition; she is the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Heritage Theatre Ensemble, a member of Sign of Laughter and is a Marketing Assistant for the Yale Rep and Yale School of Drama. Naomi is looking forward to a wonderful year full of service and sisterhood.

Mena Cammett is originally from Brooklyn, New York, Mena has always been interested in languages and cultures from around the world. She majors in Arabic and Islamic studies, and to date speaks English, Spanish, and Arabic. She plans to attend business school and work to support entrepreneurship in developing countries. She enjoys traveling, fashion, spending time with old friends, and making new ones.

Kristian Henderson is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas and History of Science, History of Medicne major at Yale. She is currently in the 5-year MPH program at Yale School of Public Health.  As the former president of the Black Solidarity Conference, she raised over $100,000 for a 3-day conference. She worked with a New Haven alderman to create Elm City Youth and Family Center, a non-profit organization, whose purpose is to address the resource gap that exists in the allocation of mental, physical, and emotional health services to families in Greater New Haven. When she arrived at Yale, she promised herself she would travel as much as she could; and she has visited Dominican Republic, Swaziland, and plans to study in Europe next summer. Through traveling she has discovered a new passion – photography.

Marie Yves is a senior at the University of New Haven double majoring in Accounting and Investigative Services. Marie Yves has served on the board for the Latin American Student Association as Treasurer for two years and President for the third year. Marie Yves is currently the Treasurer for the Zealous Xi Omicron chapter as well as for the NAACP University Chapter. Last summer Marie Yves interned with the New York Police Department working side by side with detectives whom investigated child abuse. Her desired career is to become a special agent in the future. Marie Yves is of Mexican and Haitian descent growing up bilingual speaking Spanish. Every summer she travels with her parents to go see her family in Mexico. She loves to dance Salsa, Merengue and Bachata and also strongly values cultures and traditions.

Davida McGhee is a junior at Yale University majoring in Political Science and African American Studies. This year, she serves as the Corresponding Secretary of the Xi Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Hailing from West Deptford, NJ, Davida loves the beach, considers her faith an integral part of her life, and wants to spend every moment she can in the company of good friends and family.

Jamilah Prince-Stewart is currently a senior at Yale University, Class of 2009, and a resident of Ezra Stiles College. She is the 2005 recipient of the Yale Club of New Haven’s Robert E. & Ruth R. Lapides Scholarship and is currently a Yale Club Scholar. Majoring in American Studies with a concentration in Politics and American Communities, Jamilah hopes that her passion for both issues facing the Black American in the United States and the celebration of Black culture will enable her to make change globally. Specifically, she wishes to empower the Black community in her hometown of New Haven, CT through political, organizational, educational, and cultural uplift. In her spare time, Jamilah enjoys spending time with her loving family and friends, traveling to Barbados, painting, dancing, eating food, listening to Selena, and being with her Sorors. After the completion of her undergraduate career, Jamilah plans to attend Law School in the Northeast.

Lantega Richardson is a native of Rhode Island and a senior at Southern Connecticut State University. She is a pre-nursing major I have been involved in numerous community service projects in New Haven as well as my hometown. I am of African descent, Liberia to be specific. I am a well rounded person who enjoys peer health education, an activity I have participated in for over five years, music, plays, and fashion!!

Having been born in a rural area where a large percentage of students  do not complete high school and even fewer pursue a college education, Brittany’s primary academic interests involve the vast disparities that exist between various education systems.  Since beginning her studies at Yale, she has sought to explore these disparities within the field of psychology by researching the psychosocial factors involved in inadequate education systems.   Differences between rural and urban schools, public and private schools, and predominantly Black or White schools are among the topics she has researched. Aside from her academic interests, Brittany enjoys golfing, shopping, photography, and of course, spending time with her beautiful Sorors.

Public Health Preparedness, and the Zealous Xi Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Since beginning Yale in 2005, Tari has focused her time in and out of the classroom on understanding and attempting to change the state of health care in the United States. She believes that minorities and the lower classes are often excluded from public policy and has worked with organizations like the American Cancer Society to decrease the disparities in health care. Tari also enjoys attending professional sporting events and considers the Tampa Bay Rays and the Indianapolis Colts to be among her favorite teams.
