| Q |
Can you get a degree in Agrarian Studies? |
| A |
No, not at Yale. |
| Q |
What kind of activities and programs do you have for undergraduates? |
| A |
Undergraduates can take the graduate seminar with approval from the professors teaching it; they can attend weekly colloquia; they can apply to be a research assistant for the Program fellows. Undergraduates may also apply for summer assistance. |
| Q |
Do you have any research funds for faculty? |
| A |
No. |
| Q |
Can I attend a colloquium session if I havent read the weeks paper? |
| A |
Yes, but you will get a lot more out of the session if you do because the paper is discussed not read at the colloquium. |
| Q |
Ive heard fabulous things about the meals after the colloquia. How do I get invited? |
| A |
Come to the Agrarian Studies office and complete a sign-up sheet to reserve a lunch after the colloquia. Cost is $7 per lunch and will be billed at end of term. (Warning: don’t believe “fabulous” tales. Some reports have it that the lunches are really pretty awful! It must be the conversations at lunch that are fabulous!) |
| Q |
How did the Agrarian Studies Program begin? |
| A |
It began when the first graduate seminar was offered in Spring 1990 and 58 graduate students showed up. We saw that there was interest at Yale in an interdisciplinary program, Professor James C. Scott wrote a proposal, and we secured funding. |
| Q |
Where does the Program get its funds? |
| A |
Appropriations from Yale University. |
| Q |
Can I get copies of papers presented in past years Colloquia? |
| A |
Yes. They cost $4 each. |
| Q |
What is the meaning of your logo? |
| A |
Dont know the answer to that one . . . |
| Q |
Im getting my Ph.D. from Yale. Can I be an Agrarian Studies fellow? |
| A |
You must have your Ph.D. to be a postdoctoral fellow, but the answer is yes. (We have already had two Yale Ph.D.s as Postdoctoral fellows.) |
| Q |
Do you provide office space and secretarial support for fellows? |
| A |
Office space, yes; secretarial support, no. |
| Q |
I want to apply for financial aid. Can I submit my application by email or over the Internet? |
| A |
Applications for Visiting Postoctoral Fellowships may be submitted electronically. For Graduate Student Aid applications, please contact the Program office (203-432-9833) when the 2008 submission deadlines are announced (in January 2008) about submitting electronic applications. |
| Q |
Is that an answer? |
| A |
Not entirely . . . |
