TSM Client Installation

Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) is a remarkably robust program, that installs quite easily and generally cooperates well with other applications. After the program is installed, there may be some steps of customization depending on the type of operating system and backup you requested.

System Requirements: Pentium or Compatible, 128 MB Ram
Current TSM Client Version 5.3.0.15

Close all running applications, and click on this link to Install Tivoli's TSM from the Client Software Installation Utility. When launching the application, choose Open It or Run depending on your browser.

After the TSM Client Software Installation Utility loads:

  1. Click the Install the latest TSM Software button and follow all onscreen instructions. When installation is finished, restart your computer.
  2. Click the TSM Backup Client shortcut on your desktop, and enter your password in the TSM Login window.
  3. Restart the Client Software Installation Utility.
  4. Click the Install the NT Scheduler Service button and type in your password.

Windows 95,98,Me Installation
System Requirements: 80486 or Higher, 32 MB Ram, 25 MB Disk Space
Win98/ME Current TSM Client Version 4.2.1.15
Win95 Current TSM Client Version 4.1.2.12

Close all running applications and click this link to Install Tivoli's TSM from the Client Software Installation Utility. When launching the application, choose Open It or Run depending on your browser.

After the TSM Client Software Installation Utility loads:

  1. Click the Install the latest TSM Software button and follow all onscreen instructions. When installation is finished, restart your computer.
  2. Click the TSM Backup Client shortcut on your desktop, and enter your password in the TSM Login window.

    Note: The following steps 3 through 11 are to install the TSM Scheduler Service. If you have requested a manual backup, skip the rest of the configuration process.

  3. Click Utilities from the menu bar then Setup Wizard.
  4. Uncheck "Help Me Configure the TSM Backup Archive Client".
  5. Check "Help Me Configure the TSM Client Scheduler".
  6. Click Next to "Install a New or Additional Scheduler".
  7. Click Next to "Accept the Current dsm.opt file".
  8. Type in the password for this node name and click Next.
  9. Accept "Defaults for Log File Names" and click Finish.
  10. Click OK when Scheduler Service is updated and restart your Computer.
  11. The TSM Scheduler icon should be running in the system tray. At night leave your computer running, and it will backup at the designated time.
