Interviews

Although an interview is not required, we strongly encourage Yale applicants to take advantage of the opportunity to meet and talk with a Yale alumnus/a or student. Through an interview, you can learn more about Yale and have a further chance to share additional information about yourself.

On-Campus Interviews

A limited number of on-campus interviews are available for students who will be entering their senior year of high school in the fall of 2009. These interviews are conducted by current Yale students at the admissions office and are 25-30 minutes in length. The 2009 summer on-campus interviewing program runs from late June through the end of August and the 2009 fall on-campus interviewing program runs from mid-September through November 19. If you are planning to visit campus and would like to schedule an interview, please do so through our online interview scheduler which will become active in mid-May. We have posted a limited number of summer interview slots online and will continue to add more slots through the middle of June. Openings for fall interviews will become available in September. Please check this site at a later date if your desired interview time is not currently available.

The volume of requests makes it impossible to accommodate all prospective students who would like an on-campus interview. Do not be discouraged if you are unable to schedule an on-campus interview. We urge all applicants, whether or not they have scheduled interviews, to visit the campus if they can possibly do so. Also, please keep in mind that we do our best to offer all applicants, where possible, an alumni interview (see below).

Alumni Interviews

Information for Class of 2014 applicants

If you attend a school covered by a local ASC, you will be contacted by a member of the committee for an interview once we have received and processed your application.

If you need any additional information please feel free to email: Ms. Donna Alchimio, Alumni School Committee Coordinator, at donna.alchimio@yale.edu.

General information about Alumni Interviews

In many parts of the United States and around the world, Yale Alumni Schools Committees (ASCs) serve as liaisons between prospective Yale students and the Admissions Office. Each ASC receives the names of local applicants and schedules individual interviews over the course of the application season. Although the interview is not required, Yale alumni can be very helpful, and whenever possible, applicants are urged to take advantage of this opportunity for a personal exchange with a well-informed Yale graduate. Please note that students will not be offered alumni interviews until after they have submitted their admissions applications to Yale.

While ASC interviews are available in most parts of the United States and in many foreign countries, there are places where we do not offer alumni interviews. If an alumni interview is not available in the place you live, do not worry. It will not hurt your chances for admission.
