Non-Degree Students Program

Application

For the Non-Degree student programs, Yale seeks applicants whose academic background, work experience and community involvement are particularly suited to study at Yale. All candidates must present evidence of high academic potential, maturity, and clear motivation for their proposed course of study.

Anyone who holds a high school or GED diploma is eligible to apply to the Non-degree Program. Candidates should have a compelling educational reason to attend Yale as a Non-Degree student.

Non-degree students may take from one to five courses in any academic term. The maximum number of courses a Non-degree student may take at Yale is eighteen.
The following documents are required for admission:

Applicants Who Have Never Attended College. A high school transcript, official results of the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), except in the most unusual circumstances, and three letters of recommendation. There is an application fee of $75.

Applicants Currently in College. A high school transcript, college transcript(s), official results of the SAT, and three letters of recommendation. Two of the letters should be from college instructors while the third letter must be from the student's academic dean. This letter should grant permission for the course of study the applicant wishes to undertake and should indicate the semester or year during which the applicant plans to be at Yale. There is an application fee of $75.
