AdmissionsFor the Non-Degree Students Program, Yale seeks applicants whose academic background, work experience and community involvement are particularly suited to study at Yale. All candidates must present evidence of high academic potential, maturity, and clear motivation for their proposed course of study. To be eligible to apply to the Non-Degree Students Program, candidates must hold a high school or GED diploma. Candidates should have a compelling educational reason to attend Yale as a Non-Degree student. Students who are currently enrolled in college and wish to be a Visiting Student at Yale must receive permission from their home institution prior to submitting a Non-Degree application. Non-degree students may take from one to five courses in any academic term, as stipulated in the acceptance letter from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The maximum number of courses a Non-Degree student may take during his/her tenure at Yale is eighteen. Students in the Non-degree Program are governed by the Academic Regulations of Yale College and by the rules explained in the publication Undergraduate Regulations. Students in the Non-degree Program are not eligible to live in the Residential Colleges or in University housing. Tuition and Financial AidTuition for Non-Degree students for the 2009-2010 academic year is $4,000 per course credit. Most courses are 1 credit. Labs are 1/2 credit; languages are 1 1/2 credits. There is no Yale financial aid available for the Non-Degree Student program, and financial aid eligibility is limited to funds provided by the federal government and supplemental loan programs available through private lenders. The Student Financial Services web site offers more information. Yale employees are entitled to a tuition reduction as determined by the Office of Human Resources. AdvisingAssistance in the selection of courses and academic counseling is provided by the Director of the Non-Degree Students programs, a member of the Yale College Dean's Office. FacilitiesStudents in these programs have the use of the libraries, laboratories, computer facilities, and other facilities that are necessary for their course work. On-campus housing is not offered to Non-Degree students. For the appropriate fees, students in these programs may apply for university parking and join the Payne Whitney Gymnasium. Dining hall meal plans are also available.
