Cultural Centers & Directors
|
The cultural centers provide a place for students of color to relax, to gather informally, and to affirm their sense of self outside the classroom. They offer space where students can study or share discussions. The centers frequently invite guest speakers, sponsor forums, hold concerts, stage plays, and musical performances, offer dance classes, and exhibit works of art and literature. As well, the cultural centers also help foster interaction between Yale students and people in the greater New Haven area. Some of the centers offer adult literacy or after-school tutoring programs; others provide space for religious groups to meet. Many events sponsored by the centers are open to the public. Directors of Cultural Centers
The cultural centers are managed by 3 Assistant Deans of Yale College who work intimately with students to ensure that the centers meet the needs of the student communities at Yale. Acting as liaisons between students and the College Administration, the assistant deans serve as responsive advisers and advocates while remaining active participants in the life of the cultural centers they direct.
