Computing
|
With thousands of computers, online resources, sophisticated experimental equipment, and multimedia tools, Yale University is rich with information technology. Computing has become a vital part of the Yale educational experience, with course information and supplemental material available on line. More than 90 percent of undergraduates own computers, and all resident undergraduates have direct access to the campus network. An increasing number of students opt for laptop computers, which can also connect to the network in libraries and classrooms. In addition to personal machines, computer clusters in residence halls and other academic buildings provide students with access to hundreds of additional networked computers. The campus-wide fiber-optic data network links to both the worldwide Internet and the higher-speed Internet 2, which serves only research universities. All students have access to e-mail and World Wide Web hosting services, and all residents are provided with voice mail and a campus cable television service that offers both commercial and academic programming. Yale is also committed to providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and services for student and business affairs. |
