Theater
|
Few college campuses can rival the abundance of theatrical opportunities at Yale. Over sixty dramatic productions each year display the talents of students who have extensive theatrical experience as well as those who are discovering theater for the first time. The Yale Dramatic Association—the Dramat—draws actors from throughout the College for several major productions on the main stage of the University Theater. Students run numerous undergraduate drama groups, and each residential college sponsors several student productions each year with auditions open to the entire undergraduate community. The Yale Drama Coalition is an excellent source of information regarding undergraduate theatrical productions. Improvisational comedy groups hold auditions annually and perform on campus and around the country. The Children's Theater and the Heritage Theater Ensemble of the Afro-American Cultural Center provide still further opportunities for acting, directing, writing, costume design, and technical theater work. The Theater Studies program also offers workshop and faculty-directed productions. The Yale School of Drama showcases the work of graduate student actors, directors, designers, dramaturgs, and managers each season. The professional actors, actresses, playwrights, and directors who come to speak or teach at the Drama School all add to the richness of theater at Yale. The Yale Repertory Theatre also offers student discounts and passbooks to its six full-length productions and a variety of special events each season. |
