Administrative Services Announces Organizational Changes

Janet Lindner, Associate Vice President for Administration, recently announced the following organization changes within Administrative Services:

Don Relihan, Director of Support Services, will now assume responsibility for all of Yale’s parking and transportation services for both central/science campus and medical campus, which had formerly been run as separate operations, in an effort to simplify and improve these services.  Don has been with the University for 17 years and his leadership has resulted in significant improvements to Yale’s support services. Recently, he has been instrumental in developing an approach to transportation services that will reduce our reliance on single occupancy vehicles, create better links to public transportation, and encourage use of alternative fuel and low emission vehicles. Don will continue to report directly to Janet Lindner, and Ed Bebyn, parking and transit manager, will now report directly to Don. Don will also continue to be responsible for the University’s campus mail, courier services, faculty and staff relocations, import/export services, shipping, receiving and warehouse operations.

Effective February 1, 2006, George Longyear was appointed to the position of Director, Graduate & Professional Student Housing.  In his new role, George will help lead a comprehensive approach to graduate and professional student housing, understanding and meeting the needs of students and their families living in University dorms and apartments. Reporting directly to Janet Lindner, George will oversee the four original Graduate Housing dormitories and now the Medical area dormitory, as well as the University-owned graduate school apartments. Reporting to George, Betsy Rosenthal will continue to manage the apartments, and a new manager is being hired to replace Beverly Whitney, who recently retired as manager of the dorms. The office will also supervise the web-based Yale off-campus listing service, which assists many graduate and professional students in finding housing in New Haven and surrounding communities. George brings to his new position over 16 years of University experience.
