East America Cup Soccer Tournament 2003
- Introduction
- Soccer, being a world-wide sport, is also very popular
among Chinese people. Chinese students and scholars in the Great New York
area have a tradition of taking part in a two-day East America Cup Soccer
Tournament(EACST) around the end of each summer.
- As the coordinator of this event, the Association of Chinese Students and
Scholars of New York (ACSSNY) chooses a host campus each year. This
year, the Association of Chinese
Students and Scholars at Yale (ACSSY) is taking the initiative to host
EACST2003 at Yale.

- This tournament is the most influential multi-campus
activity among Chinese students and scholars in the Eastern
United States. It enriches the life of Chinese community in America,
fosters the communication and friendship among people
from different fields and campuses, and enhances the influence of Chinese
community. An audience of 200 people is expected for
each game on the first day and much more will show up for the second day's
final games. The majority of audience will be families and friends of soccer
game players and cheer groups from individual universities.
- Program
- There will be 12 participating soccer teams, whose members mostly are
Chinese students and scholars from universities in the Eastern United States area.
Each team will attend two to four games during the two days.
- The 12 teams are divided into four groups, and intra-group session will
be held on the first day. The top team from each group will go through to
the final session on the second day. Schedule and grouping information is
posted here.
- With the support from ACSSNY, Yale University and our
sponsors, almost all costs, such as soccer field rental, insurance fee,
awards and professional referee fee, will be covered. So, there is no
registration fee.
- However, in order to decrease the possible violent actions in the games,
each attending team will be required to submit a $100
deposit. One yellow card will be charged
$20 and one red card will be charged $40. The deposit
(minus the possible foul charges) will be returned after the tournament.
