YALE'S DIVERSITY
At the heart of Yale's quest for excellence, lies an
integral commitment to diversity. The vibrancy of the Yale community
fosters learning and growth outside of the academic domains of the classroom,
allowing for not only cross-cultural awareness but cross-cultural sharing,
understanding and connecting. Currently, Yale College enrolls over 5,000
undergraduates from all 50 U.S. states and many countries around the
world. About 14% of the student body hails from another country and
about 30% of the undergraduates are students of color. Asian Americans
comprise the largest minority group at Yale, standing at about 15%.
There are numerous resources for Asian-American students at Yale, reflecting
Yale's mission to provide a supportive atmosphere for its students of
color. Besides Yale's cultural houses, another such resource available
throughout freshman year is the Ethnic
Counselor Program.
GET ACQUAINTED WITH THE AACC!
The Asian American Cultural Center (AACC) hosts many
events to acclimate new freshmen on Campus, starting at Bulldog days
for prospective Elis. This year the Asian American Cultural Center will
host a Casino Night where winnings can be redeemed for necessities of
a Yalie-Bulldog paraphernalia. Representatives from the Asian American
Student Alliance and its affiliated organization will be present to
answer any questions and elaborate on the Yale experience. Fun, laid
back, and rewarding -- it definitely isn't an event to be missed.
On Wednesday afternoon, April 22, we will also
have an informal open house from 3-6pm where AACC
staff will be on hand to give you a tour of the center and answer
questions about life on Yale's campus.
