Welcome Alumni
ALUMNI OUTREACH COORDINATORS
A Message from your Alumni Outreach Coordinators
Who We Are and What We DoJust because you graduated doesn't mean you're no longer a part of the Yale community. The Association of Asian American Yale Alumni (AAAYA) is a newly incorporated national organization that aims to continue the connections formed at Yale. Read more about the AAAYA here. The Alumni Outreach Coordinators, Vivek Kembaiyan (MC '10) and Vina Pulido (SY '10), work in the interface between Asian American alumni and current students through events such as Life After Yale. By providing a link between students and alumni, the Alumni Outreach Coordinators enable the students to benefit from the clear-cut advice of knowledgeable elders while allowing the alumni to retrace their memories from their Yale days. The AACC and Asian American Student Alliance (AASA) also collaborate on an alumni blog, which will be updated with events throughout the year. Read on to see how the AACC reaches out to alumni and how you can continue giving back to Yale. The AACC will host the Association of Asian American Yale Alumni Board dinner this year on Friday, November 20, 2009.Sampler of Events NYC Alumni Outreach Trips:
An initiative begun last year, the NYC Alumni Outreach Trip taps into the strong
base of Asian American alumni in New York City by creating an event
which allows students and alumni to mix over dinner in an intimate NYC
setting with
student/alumni pairings arranged by interest (e.g. law, finance, art).
In this way, students gain immense insight into potential careers
through the eyes of the alumni. This year, the fall trip was on Saturday, October 17.
Asian American Alumni Reunion during Yale-Harvard weekend: Every other year when Yale hosts The Game, the AACC coordinates an alumni reunion banquet on campus. We invite the alumni to come and see how the campus has changed in the recent years, especially the Asian American community! The next Asian American Alumni Reunion will be held in 2009.
Spring Break Externships: During spring break, students have the opportunity to spend one week by shadowing alumni on the job. The program is meant to give students the opportunity to gain experience in a career they are interested in or to help them explore the multitude of professions available to them. If you would like to get involved as an alumni sponsor, please fill out an sponsor application form. The 2009 Spring Externships Program is from March 16-20 with sites in New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Northern California. The application may be found here and must be emailed to aacc.alumni@gmail.com by Saturday, January 31.
Life After Yale: A longstanding tradition, Life After Yale brings back alumni from various backgrounds to the Yale campus and invites students to ask anyone anything. Students have the opportunity to speak intimately with alumni about their careers, graduate and professional schools and personal lives after graduation. It is a free forum of discussion, allowing students to determine their career paths in a relaxed setting.
The AACC's New Endowment: Recently, a few generous alumni helped the center put together an endowment fund, similar to what other cultural houses have. We are working on an AACC Endowment brochure that we hope to send out in the near future. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Dean Saveena Dhall.
Alumni Newsletter: The
newsletter is sent out each semester to keep alumni in touch with the
latest events and issues occurring in the Asian American community on
the Yale campus. Each issue of the newsletter will highlight two groups
involved with the Asian American Cultural Center, include a brief
feature on an alum, and a calendar of upcoming events for each of the
major groups.
