Mission Statement

Student Taskforce for Environmental Partnership, (STEP) is a program designed to educate Yale students and the Yale community about sustainability and to foster a community ethic of environmental stewardship and sustainable behavior.

Welcome to STEP!

Hi, fellow Yalies!

Thank you for taking time to visit our website.  We realize busy Yalies don’t have a lot of time to spare, but luckily you don’t have to spend a lot of time to start living sustainably.  Whether it’s one second to flip off a light, five minutes to take the recycling to the basement, or no time at all to turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, there are many quick ways that you can make a difference.  For example, if your suite replaces ten 100W bulbs with CFLs (compact fluorescent lightbulbs), you’ll save the same amount of carbon emissions that a SUV emits over a year.  Although we can think big all we’d like, positive change can’t occur unless we make sure that the little things get done too – and yes, recycling really does come out to conserve resources, even after accounting for all energy expenditures.

Our job is to provide you with the knowledge to make informed decisions about the resources you consume everyday. We hope you will find information on this site that will help you live your life more sustainably, more easily.

We recognize that nobody’s perfect; although we’re trying our best, this site, our organization, and our projects can all be improved upon.  If you have comments, suggestions, or questions, please never hesitate to contact us.  We’re always looking for new ideas and feedback!

Sustainably yours,

Alice (ES ’08) and Meg (CC ’08)
