Vilonia School District

Vilonia School District was pleased to join the Schools of the 21 st Century during the 2004-2005 school year. Vilonia is located approximately forty minutes from the state’s capital, Little Rock, Arkansas. Through the allocation of this program, the services being provided to infants and toddlers has tripled. Space is being completely utilized and the area children in need of an enriching preschool atmosphere are served.
Currently the Vilonia School District program housed at the Vilonia Child Development Program houses nine six week to two year old children. The two year old program houses twelve students and the three and four year old program accommodates forty-eight. The districts ABC program serves 60 four year olds.
Vilonia School District is pleased to employ senior citizens through the states Foster Grandparent Program. This program allows older, caring adults to rock, feed and play with the children. These extra sets of hands are indeed a blessing!

Because the program is housed directly across the street from the school’s main campus, hot lunches are provided through the school cafeteria. This easy, convenient means of feeding the students both breakfast and lunch comes in handy.
There are separate buildings for the infants and toddlers and the three and four year old programs. A renovated house accommodates the younger children, with a new facility, provided through the Arkansas Commission of Economic Development, housing the older children.

Another luxury afforded the childcare is the Family and Consumer Science Class (otherwise known as Home Ec). Students rotate through a semester of childcare classes. During this time the senior students walk to the child development center and spend time with children of all age levels.
To many it is work, to many it is pleasure, but to each of them it instills responsibility, obligations, time consumption of little ones and learning to meet their needs. The seniors are able to experience that having a little one is not all fun and games. Again, the extra hands are a joy to have, and the young children love playing with “teenagers.”
